Kevin Tao and Kyle Komata both placed in the Western Regional Cadet Freestyle tournament in Klamath Falls, Or (3rd and 5th place). In the crossover match to see who gets to compete in the championship finals, Kevin had to wrestle defending National Champion, Eric Luna of Oregon. Kevin lost a close first period but came back with a commanding second period win. In the tie-breaking final period, Kevin gains a solid lead of 4 – 1. But with only seconds to go, gets caught with a throw and looses from criteria in a tiebreaker. Eric Luna went on to repeat as a Regional Champion by winning in the finals, and Kevin finished the tournament with a win for third place. It was a great confidence builder for Kevin. Kyle also had a great tournament as a first year Cadet. He was in the tough side of the brackets, and had to contend with the eventual champion in his third match. He ended up wrestling for 5th place, and dominated his opponent with a pin in the first period. Congratulations for Kevin and Kyle.
